Webster!

Cannabliss 6/18/2011

Webster from Grower #2

Genetics: Sativa dominant hybrid approximately 70%/30%.
Grade: A
Personal Note: Effect is after one pipe bowl, taking about four to five hits total. I will designate a number value based on a zero out of ten scale. Zero being no effect and ten being an up enough high that I wanted to get up and clean or go for a walk. I will also do a number scale for my personal pain relief, stating pain level before and after.
Appearance: Beautiful dense sugar coated light green nugs with a few burnt orange hairs.
Production Characteristics: Well trimmed, no nutritional anomalies noted. Was a little dry when I first brought it home, but thirty minutes in a pint jar with a small reusable disk humidifier solved that issue.
Smell: Fresh citrus pine is the first thing I notice then it transitions to a dank hash smell if you continue to shove your nose in the jar as I did!
Taste: As with the smell, the first flavor notes to hit you are a sweet pine forest followed by a nice strong hash aftertaste.
Effects: A strong “up” body high which had me on my feet and doing some work that needed done but I hadn’t been able to physically get to. This sativa has enough indica traits that it provides great pain relief as well as anti-nausea properties. This would NOT make a good nighttime medication for those suffering insomnia. It does clear my head out nicely and allows me to let go of all the junk running through my mind but it also causes a wonderful sort of buzzing feeling in all my nerve endings. This is a pleasant electrifying feeling but would, in my opinion, impede good deep sleep.
Type: Sativa dominant hybrid
Overall High: 7/10
Pain level before medicating: 8/10
Pain level after medicating: 3/10
Pain relief lasted: 2 hours
Side Effects: No cottonmouth, appetite stimulation or paranoia noted. I felt slightly jittery at the very end of the high but this could also be because I was up doing a lot of stuff, which usually my pain precludes me from participating in. After I sat down for about five minutes and drank some water, I felt better.

Mystery Blue

OMMProviders March 2011

Mystery Blue-Unknown Grower
Genetics: Unknown
Grade: C
Personal Note: Effect is after one pipe bowl, taking about four to five hits total. I will designate a number value based on a zero out of ten scale. Zero being no effect and ten being strong enough to put me to sleep. I will also do a number scale for my personal pain relief, stating pain level before and after.
Appearance: Fluffy airy green buds, no blue or purple hues. Minimal trichome content with very few burnt orange hairs. This strain was one that did not look very good, I would best describe it as scraggly but the high made up for the poor visual appearance. Overly dried out, I had to put in a reusable humidifier disk before I was able to sample it.
Production Characteristics: Poor trimming with many small leaves left in place even though they did not have any trichomes visible. Appeared to be someone’s halfhearted attempt at growing or was done on a large production scale, no pride in workmanship was shown.
Smell: Not much of a smell what there is just tasted green. Not necessarily a bad smell just a plain old plant smell.
Taste: The taste was similar to the smell; there was not much there just a green leafy plant taste. Similar I suppose with how fresh lettuce smells.
Effects: This is where I was surprised! With how it looked, smelled, and tasted I figured that it would not provide much pain relief or produce a very strong high, but I was wrong. I experienced a very mellow calming high with good pain control that lasted only about an hour. This strain comes on quick but unfortunately leaves you quickly as well, so if you are the type that likes to only smoke a small bowl here or there this would not be an ideal strain for you. Now if you do not mind smoking three or four bowls over the course of a few hours you could stay pleasantly medicated with mystery blue.
Type:
Overall High: 5/10
Pain level before medicating: 6/10
Pain level after medicating: 3/10
Pain relief lasted: 1 hour
Side Effects: Cottonmouth and increased appetite were not a problem; however, it did cause some lung irritation with subsequent coughing fits. Would probably best be used in medicated food or vaporized. Some anxiety experienced but nothing too extreme.

I was not able to get a photo of this strain I apologize for any inconvenience.

Glossary of Terms

Here are some terms with their definition for those who need a little refresher or are just wading through their first experiences with medical marijuana.

According to Marijuanadoctors.com the differences between indica and sativa strains are as follows:
Indica strains are sedatives/relaxants and are effective for treating the symptoms of medical conditions such as anxiety, chronic pain, insomnia, muscle spasms and tremors. Indicas have a higher level of cannabinoids than sativas, which results in a sedated body-type stone. Because indica strains may cause feelings of sleepiness and heaviness, many patients prefer to medicate with this type of cannabis at night.

Sativa strains are more of a stimulant, and are effective in appetite stimulation, relieving depression, migraines, chronic pain and nausea. Sativas have a higher level of THC than indicas, which results in a psychoactive and energetic mind-high. Because sativa strains may cause feelings of alertness and optimism, many patients prefer to medicate with this type of cannabis during the day.

Hybrids and crossbreeds of indica and sativa strains produce varieties that carry some characteristics of each parent. For example, adding sativa to indica strains adds mental clarity and decreases sedation effects.  In addition, adding indica to sativa strains can decrease or even eliminate the sativa tendency to stimulate anxiety. Hybrids are often referred to based upon the dominant sub-species inherited from their lineage, eg:  pure indica, mostly indica, mostly sativa, or pure sativa.  Instead of using pure indica or pure sativa, many patients can benefit from the use of hybrid strains. There are a vast number of strains available for patients, each with a different cannabinoid profile and effect.

According to thefreedictionary.com a trichome is defined as follows:
Trichomes A hairlike or bristlelike outgrowth, as from the epidermis of a plant. Trichomes are often referred to as crystals, by many medical marijuana patients and many will say they base their choice of medicine on how many crystals are on the bud.

Photo courtesy of Cannabis Culture Magazine
Cannabis Culture Magazine states that, “the sticky coating of trichomes is home to the active ingredients in cannabis – the stuff that gets you high and has all the medical benefits – tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD), and other cannabinoids.”

According to dictionary.reference.com
Cannabinoid is any of the chemical compounds that are the active principles of marijuana.

According to Wikipedia.com
Cannabidiol (CBD) chemical constituents of marijuana, such as tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. It is a cannabinoid found in cannabis. It is a major constituent of the plant, representing up to 40% in its extracts. CBD is not particularly psychoactive in and of itself, and was thought not to affect the psychoactivity of THC. However, recent evidence shows that smokers of cannabis with a higher CBD/THC ratio were less likely to experience schizophrenia-like symptoms. CBD is responsible for antidepressant, anti-anxiety, and anti-nausea effects. It also appears to relieve convulsions and inflammation. CBD shares a precursor with THC and is the main cannabinoid in low-THC cannabis strains. CBD apparently plays a role in preventing the short-term memory loss associated with THC in mammals.

Cannabinol (CBN) is the primary product of THC degradation, and there is usually little of it in a fresh plant. CBN content increases as THC degrades in storage, and with exposure to light and air. It is only mildly psychoactive. THC, CBD, and CDN are the most prevalent natural cannabinoids and have received the most study.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the main psychoactive substance found in the cannabis plant.

Lemon Skunk

Cannabliss 06/12/2011

Lemon Skunk from Grower #1:
Genetics: Old school skunk selectively bred over the last twenty years for phenotype with heavy citrus characteristics.
Grade: A+
Personal Note: Effect is after one pipe bowl, taking about four to five hits total. I will designate a number value based on a zero out of ten scale. Zero being no effect and ten being strong enough to put me to sleep. I will also do a number scale for my personal pain relief, stating pain level before and after.
Appearance: Lime green with heavy trichome formation on exterior and interior of bud. This strain has a nice distribution of orange hairs, which stand out a lot against the light lime greenness of the bud. High calyx to leaf ratio.
Production Characteristics: Very good trimming by the grower, the only leaves present are small and covered in trichomes, which make them all good in my opinion. No apparent nutrient deficiencies during grow period and dried very well. You will not be paying for any water weight here although I did put in a small humidifier so that it would not burn up in one hit.
Smell: Very powerful lemon and pine smell that never dissipated while stored in a glass pint jar. This is a strain you will want to always store separately, from any others you may have on hand, because if not everything will smell like this one! It is an extremely potent smell.
Taste: Very wonderful lemon taste as well as nice piney undertones. The lemon hits you immediately whereas the pine hits you on the back end. One thing to note about this strain, if you are a connoisseur in the fact that you appreciate a good strong tasting medication, then don’t load more than three or four hits because those give the best flavor and after all the greens been charred the flavor is much less noticeable. Overloading can lead to the end of the bowl tasting ashy.
Effects:
Type: 60% Sativa: 40% Indica
Overall High: 8/10
Pain level before medicating: 8/10
Pain level after medicating: 3/10
Pain relief lasted: 3 hours
Good indica body high but does not immediately put me to sleep. It is good at clearing my head and allowing me to release all of the days’ worries and stresses. Although it is a sativa dominant hybrid I didn't find it had the up heady high of a typical sativa. I would recommend it for early evening perhaps four to five hours before planning to go to bed. When I use this kind then add another strong indica with good anti-insomnia properties just before I want to sleep, the combination of pain relief and mind clearing allows for a nice peaceful regenerative sleep.
Side Effects: Cottonmouth is a moderate problem; keep a bottle of water on hand. Increased appetite was not an issue, so this would probably not be a first choice for someone medicating for chronic nausea or low appetite because of chemotherapy. Mild euphoria noted but mostly just elevated mood. Good anti-anxiety properties, which would benefit those who suffer from paranoia.

Note this picture is of the actual medicine I used.
